the end of the day 13.11.2010
British furniture designer Robin Day died on the 9th of November aged 95. Day and his wife, (textile designer Lucienne Day who died in January this year), were often compared to Charles and Ray Eames.
There’s more than a fair chance that your bum has come into contact with one of Robin Day’s creations. If you went to school in Australia in the last 40 years you’ll recognise his polypropolene chair. Designed in 1963 it’s believed to be the best selling chair in history with over 20 million manufactured. Over 500,000 are still produced every year.
In 2009 it appeared on a series of 8 British stamps of “British Design Classics”.
