LED lights are currently by far the cheapest form of lighting available in the home or workplace in terms of electricity use.
The US. Department of Energy compared the average bulb life of incandescent bulbs, CFLs, and LEDs. Traditional incandescent bulbs lasted up to 1,000 hours while CFL’s lasted up to 10,000 hours. However, LED light bulbs lasted up to 25,000 hours – 2.5 times longer than CFLs.
However, due to the nature of the technology and the specialist form of the LEDs involved, many new LED lamps have non-replaceable globes. Whilst this is frustrating in that the lamp is redundant at the end of the globe’s life the upfront cost is more than offset by the extremely low energy cost over the lifespan of the product.
