In 1997, Sandy Chilewich founded Chilewich based on her experience choosing materials for HUE legwear. Her first products were the Raybowls and Ray Tray, using stretchable, breathable mesh for produce storage. During that design process, Chilewich discovered woven vinyl. Impressed by that material’s durability and design versatility, Chilewich introduced her first collection of vinyl floormats, tablemats and totes in 2000. In 2001, she and husband Joe Sultan came up with “plynyl”, woven vinyl specially constructed with a commercial grade backing for infinite contract applications.
