Alessandro Mendini (born 1931) runs Atelier Mendini with his brother Francesco in Milan, Italy. He is a dual winner of the Compasso d’oro (1979 and 1982) and was one of the main forces behind the radical design movement of the 1970s. As well as designing a number of objects for Alessi, Mendini was also the company’s architect of choice for the family’s residence in Omegna, Italy. He was also the architect for the Groninger Museum in Groningen, The Netherlands.
